On 15th May, 43 pupils from four different local schools took part in our Think Big School in Glasgow.

When the pupils arrived we split up into ten different groups including 1 volunteer from O2 and 4 or 5 pupils all from different schools. Martin took us through an introduction and plan for the day and then within our groups we got to know one another with some ice breaker exercises.  We quickly established that Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter were the apps we could not live without.

We then moved on to the technology quiz where we all learned a thing or two about how quickly technology has progressed over the past decade.

Martin took us through some slides all about the history of the internet and world wide web, what has changed and how companies have evolved to stay profitable. This led on to the main challenge of the day, to create a new app or digital idea, one that was relevant, new and could be developed as technology develops.

After some training on App Shed the groups worked through their ideas, taking them from a simple idea jotted down on a piece of paper to a full app (that you can download to your own smartphone) with a full business plan!

The groups really impressed their teachers by demonstrating their understanding of their app’s unique selling point, their target market and how the app would actually create revenue!
